Join us for some internal spring cleaning on Sunday 4 September. Shankaprakshalana is an ancient Hatha Yoga practice that combines drinking lightly salted water with five specific yoga postures. The benefits of this cleansing practice are considerable. Read more
The salted water is very mild and easy to drink and does not get absorbed into the body. Instead it passes through flushing out all accumulated matter. The real benefits of this practice come from the yoga postures which massage the internal organs and wash the water around.
Swami Satyananda says in his books that Shankaprakshalana removes digestive problems, gas, acidity, constipation and helps with diabetes, hypoglycaemia, obesity, cholesterol, allergies, arthritis and many other conditions. But most convincing are the testimonies from people at Ashram Yoga who have been through the practice and actualised the benefits.
We will be practicing the long form of Shankaprakshalana. For this practice an experienced guide is essential. We recommend that inexperienced people do not practice the long form at home.
Please note that this practice takes a number of hours. 6:30am – Noon. Sunday 4 September. Limited to six people, three places left. Be prepared to have the whole day off to rest. Cost: $50.

We teach both the long form of Shankaprakshalana and the short form. For the long form practice an experienced guide is essential. We recommend that inexperienced people do not practice the long form at home.
.
Prerequisites
Shankaprakshalana is a strong technique that is quite physically and mentally demanding. For this reason we require that participants have practiced Laghoo – the short form of Shankaprakshalana – before participating in the long form.
Laghoo is exactly the same as Shankaprakshalana - the only difference is the length of time that it takes. Laghoo is much shorter and may be completed within 30 minutes. Nevertheless, it is still a very practical and effective technique that delivers great results.
