Yoga is an ancient science of mind, body and spirit. It has tremendous power to transform lives and reveal the mysteries of life. Its wisdom is kept alive and relevant by great souls who dedicate themselves to sharing it with humanity.

India – the home of Yoga – has produced many such luminaries including Paramahansa Ramakrishna, Ramana Maharshi, Paramahansa Yogananda, Anandamayi Ma, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Sivananda and Swami Satyananda. Their legacy is found in schools, books, students, practices and stories.

Often these teachers are called swami – an title indicating that they have been initiated into a yoga tradition and have dedicated their life to its spiritual ideals. The swami tradition in India is thousands of years old and is alive and well even today.

Studying the teachings of the masters is very enriching and highly recommended. They are like lamp posts on the way – providing light and direction where it might otherwise be dark and uncertain.

At Ashram Yoga we take a lof of interest in traditional yogic knoweldge and passing it on is our raison d’être.
