Sankalpa |
|
Sankalpa is an important part of the practice of Yoga Nidra. In Yoga Nidra (Psychic Sleep) receptivity is awakened, and we can discover that there is a state of mind which is very sensitive and absolutely obedient and receptive, which can follow each and every command that is given, either by another or by one’s own mind.
This is achieved through one’s sankalpa – one’s resolve – an act of will – or purpose – for which can be the means of correcting any troublesome habit, or of achieving a particular goal in life. When the mind is withdrawn it becomes very receptive, and this is the secret of using one’s Sankalpa or resolve – through the sankalpa we can evolve into more compassion, love, generosity, tranquility of mind, etc. The dissolution of any conflict caused by what we know is NOT good for us, and yet we keep on doing it. One’s resolve can take us beyond these undesired habits into a more positive way of life. The sankalpa is given as a short and positive direction, e.g.
Etc……These are the nature of a sankalpa. A positive direction by purpose for change and embracement in one’s life. |

This gives rise to a dynamic state of consciousness, beyond the distractions of the sensory channels, and when the mind is dissociated from distractions and disturbance of the senses it becomes very powerful. This puts us in touch with our psychic personality which is responsible for all that we think and do, and with this awareness, we can act on these ideas in which we believe.
