About Pranayama
Pranayama is the expansion of the vital life force.
The classical yogic practices of pranayama have been known in India for over 4,000 years. The yogic renaissance witnessed in the last few decades has made pranayama into a household term, but the essence and depth of the practices remain largely unexplored for most practitioners, and in some cases, yoga teachers.
Prana is the vital life force that sustains not only the physical body, but also creation at every level. It is the energetic essence of all living things. How well we understand and work with it can directly influence our health on every level.
Prana rides on the breath, so by practicing specific breathing techniques we have the ability to control and increase this vital life force and therefore our entire sense of wellbeing. Modern medicine and psychology are increasingly prescribing breath work as a way to support and expand health and quality of life.

Teacher Training
Ashram Yoga is offering a training course in two stages. It is designed specifically for yoga teachers to develop understanding of the pranic body as well as the classical practices that influence it. You will learn how to appropriately and effectively teach these techniques to students whilst also improving the quality of your own yoga practice.
This is a four-day course run over two weekends.
.
Part 1
The purpose of this course is to learn how the pranayama techniques of yoga influence the flow of prana within the human energy system, and how and when they can be used within a class situation.
Part 1 introduces the major energy centres within the body including the vayus, chakras and nadis and how they relate to pranic flow. We will discuss what constitutes effective breathing and how the breath can be utilised to control and improve the flow of prana, increase the quality of a person’s yoga practice and create harmony and wellbeing on every level.
Completion of this course will enable you to effectively and confidently teach classical pranayama techniques within a yoga class as well as increasing your background knowledge for when students present you with questions around breath work.
.
Part 2
This course works to deepen your knowledge of pranayama and how prana flows within both the physical and subtle bodies. Gain knowledge of how pranayama techniques effect and influence the energetic, emotional, cognitive and physical aspects of people, giving you a broader view and more holistic understanding of yoga.
This weekend will enrich your knowledge of the philosophy and theory behind pranayama and will move into more advanced practical techniques. You will learn how these techniques can be applied to the needs of specific groups and individuals, increasing the quality of the yoga you deliver. An added bonus is the benefit your own personal practice will receive. This is a rare opportunity to access age-old traditional practices that come directly from the system of Tantra.
